OAKS 2 Launch Meeting

OAKS 2 was launched at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh. Over 130 students attended from across the country, with an array of renowned speakers including Mr Lavelle-Jones, the President of the Royal College of Surgeons. The day began with 2 parallel research skills courses and concluded with the launch of OAKS 2 and plenaries from leading experts in surgery and renal medicine. Click here for more details.

ESCP Dublin, 24th September 2015

STARSurg was kindly invited to host a student session at the annual scientific meeting of the European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP) in Dublin on 24th September 2015. The session was split into two halves, with talks from Professor Morton and the STARSurg team first, followed by project proposals from students around Europe. Students from the UK, Ireland, Spain, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands and Turkey all participated and delivered exceptionally high quality and relevant future project proposals. Going forward, these ideas will be developed to form the basis of the first collaborative medical student-led international study.

OAKS Launch Meeting, 16th September 2015

Hosted at the Royal College of Surgeons, London the meeting was attended by over 160 delegates. There were two parallel ‘basic’ and ‘advanced’ research skills courses in the morning with the protocol launch in the afternoon.

Highlights included keynote speakers Prof Dion Morton, Prof Derek Alderson and Prof John Prowle.

DISCOVER Launch Meeting, 16th September 2014

Hosted at the Royal College of Surgeons, London. There were two parallel ‘basic’ and ‘advanced’ research skills courses in the morning with the protocol launch in the afternoon.

Highlights included keynote speakers Prof Dion Morton and Ms Clare Marx, President of the Royal College of Surgeons.

Spring Meeting, Birmingham, 5th April 2014

Hosted at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the meeting was well attended by over 80 delegates. Some incredibly exciting ideas came out of the meeting and the ASiT research skills course was a particular highlight.

Highlights also included sessions hosted by Professor Dion Morton, Professor Derek Alderson and Mr Ewen Griffiths, culminating in a ‘design your own trial’ presentation session.

Launch Meeting, Royal College of Surgeons of England, 10th September 2013

STARSurgUK was launched at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and this event was attended by 75 delegates representing 19 medical schools.

As well as releasing the STARSurgUK protocol, this meeting introduced principles of student collaboration, with a keynote speakers.
